Branson is full of attractions, amusement parks, museums, music shows and more. You can spend your entire vacation without leaving the the infamous highway 76 strip. What often goes unnoticed however is the surrounding beauty of the Ozarks. Consider taking a ride on the Branson Scenic Railway. The train ride is a 40 mile round trip that goes over bridges through two long tunnels and winds through the beautiful Ozark hills. You learn a lot of history about the area, and the storyline about the railroad.
Dinner is served while you enjoy a romantic train ride from southwest Missouri that brings you all the way down into Northern Arkansas. Keep your eyes open for the wildlife, and enjoy some of the old communities that are rich in history. Some of the towns are old and run down but you get a glimpse at what life might have been like 100 years ago in the area.
A historian of the area keeps you informed of the historic sites and you even drive by one of the caves where Jesse James used as one of his hideouts.
If you have children, and would like to take them on an educational train ride, than the Branson Scenic Railway train ride might be an option you may want to consider. One of the few complaints I have is that you have to wait outside to board the train and if you have a high ticket number the wait can be tiresome.
All in all, the Branson Scenic Railway is an interesting, relaxing, and rewarding way for your family to spend a couple of hours out of your day while vacationing in Branson, Missouri.
